Diane Webber: An Icon of Nudism… or not?
Diane Webber, born Diane Marguerite Empey (Wikipedia article), was an American actress and model. Although she had modelled for Playboy in the mid-50’s, she married and became a true nudist several years later, apearing in many nudist magazines. Although posing for Playboy is not acceptable to most nudists, she was an overall positive model of nudism. Perhaps she discovered, as many other female models and performers have, that nudism is the way to be nude with dignity, pride and serenity. The fact that she is considered by most to be attractive could be a good or bad factor as a model nudist. While real nudists shouldn’t judge, or make attractiveness a factor at all, the fact that she was considered attractive probably caught the attention of more Americans than she otherwise would have, thereby promoting nudism to the general public more effectively. On the other hand, however, photographic attention given only to an attractive nudist woman might make others feel they don’t look good enough to be a nudist.
Rest assured, you will see quite a variety of body types at a nude beach or nudist resort, few of them “acceptable” to Hollywood’s dictates. So whoever you are, and whatever you look like, you’ll fit right in!

she has been one of my favorite women of all time. itry to keep track of her in her various avatars as model, actress, nudist icon, exotic dancer, all time hit california golden girl. i would be delighted to get details of websites devoted to her. tks
Diane was a belly dancer not an “exotic dancer” Exotic dancer is just another name for a stripper.
The dilemma for attractive nudist females who believe in nudism but don’t want to be just a sex object is obvious;it’s not just nudists who like nekked chicks! Diane apparently went into her endeavors KNOWING that some people were just into it for the purpose of seeing her nude, but attractive nudists deal with that all the time. There should be MORE nudist Playboy vets! If you’re ok with being nude in public to begin with, wouldn’t one think that it would be GREA to be nude when you DONT have to strike a pose?
The problem is the confusion of nudism with sex, which happens when girly pictures are marketed as being “nudist” when they are not. Nudism is simply being in your own skin. It is not flaunting your sexuality. So Ms. Weber and models like her are unfortunately not icons of nudism. They are icons of men’s magazines. Nothing wrong with that, it’s just not nudism. Let’s call it what it is.
